It’s hard living in the spotlight. You never know who might be hiding around the next corner, waiting to photograph each and every move you make. You are never free from the scrutiny of prying eyes, and are constantly harassed by people who will not stop until they have revealed every embarrassing and unflattering detail about your life.
Unfortunately, I have come to know all too well what it is like to live in such a voyeuristic fishbowl. My life hasn’t always been this way. A couple of weeks ago I was free to saunter about in my baggy track pants and xxl sweatshirt (that actually has “XXL” blazoned across the front), and not give a thought as to what I might actually look like in said unflattering attire. Well, thanks to my five-year-old, and an old digital camera she somehow managed to procure and claim as her own, life these days is very different for me and my track pants. In fact, after seeing my pants from several very unpleasant angles, I’m not even sure if I even want to wear them again. To make matters worse, it's not only my backside I have to worry about; she has also managed to take pictures of me doing everything from chatting somewhat aimlessly on the phone (or so it appears), to sorting through dirty laundry (her dirty laundry I might add), to sitting at the computer working on my thesis (all right I was playing chess, but that was the only time, I swear). Why she has suddenly become so passionate about photography and the visual arts, I am not sure, but it is clear she is enjoying her new role as household papparazzi.
As you can see from some of these pictures, I am not our little photographer’s only target. Not only has she snapped pictures of her unsuspecting parents and sister, but also our dog, her friends, and even our friends’ dog (who definitely gets the award for worst possible camera angle). Even Barbie and Ken, who look like they were in the middle of a little private time, can't escape the harrasment. Let’s hope she never manages to sneak out of the house with her camera in hand. I might have some pretty difficult questions to answer to the people at the grocery store.
On the bright side, she takes more pictures of herself than anything else. Every time I plug in her memory card I have a good laugh at the crazy things she comes up with. My favorite one is the shadow pic (I think Supergirl took that one).
